We have teamed up with InsurTech and ancillary insurance product provider CPP Group UK to offer Smart Luggage cover, a travel insurance add-on which protects customers who lose their checked-in luggage during travel. The product is distributed through specialist travel insurance broker Just Travel Cover, and pays out if checked-in luggage is either delayed or lost by the airline during transit.
Karen Beales, MD of the underwriter Financial & Legal, said the product is a response to the nightmare of your bags not appearing on the carousel at the airport following a flight.
“25 million bags are delayed or lost by airlines each year, and although airlines are getting better at tracing bags through technology, 25 million mishandled bags adds up to a huge amount of hassle for people if they are travelling for leisure or business. Smart Luggage provides a real-time payment of £50 if a customer’s luggage is delayed by 30 minutes and £500 if deemed lost after 48 hours. The money goes straight into the customer’s bank or PayPal account without the need for lengthy claims forms”
We understand that nobody wants to start their trip with lost luggage, so we make an instant payment to offset the need to buy a few immediate necessities, and the smart luggage technology then sets to work tracking down the missing bags, giving customers updates via their mobile phones. If the bag is still missing after 48 hours, £500 is placed in the customers’ account to help them buy essentials to replace their lost kit. The cost of the policy is £3.00, which makes it a great additional cover to give travellers extra peace of mind when they reach their destination.
