Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill

The above bill is currently passing through the House of Lord's. The bill, as it stands, will end the recoverability of After the Event insurance premiums. Financial and Legal insurance through the Legal Expenses Insurance Group, are continuing to lobby relevant parties to persuade the government to adopt the alternative After the Event insurance model to ensure access to justice is maintained for all.

The alternative model will:

• Maintain access to justice
• Give claimant's certainty
• Introduce competition between After the Event insurers
• Reduce costs overall
• Spread risks
• Cover disbursements funding
• Give claimants a stake in decisions on costs
