Part of the Financial & Legal Group, we were originally established in 1995 to underwrite BTE, Before The Event, insurance for companies with The Group. Following the introduction of the Access to Justice Act in 1999, we began underwriting ATE, After The Event Insurance too. We are fully authorised and regulated by the Financial Services.

Our vision

Since our inception in 1995, our role as a legal expenses provider has altered and continues to change. As more and more people become aware of their legal rights and become more confident about taking legal action, we anticipate a growing demand for legal protection for both businesses and individuals. We are, and always have been, proactive in the development of new, niche and exciting legal expenses insurance solutions. As members of RIAD, we will continue to create insurance products that best meet the needs of the legal profession and its clients.

The team

Peter Lowe, Business & Development Manager Peter has worked in the general insurance market for over 40 years. In early years as an underwriter then claims handler involving direct negotiation with solicitors on PI claims.

He spent 25 years with a national personal lines broker, the last 10 years of which, as a Director. For the past 15 years, Peter has been working in the legal expenses market, the last seven years championing the Financial & Legal brand.

Mike Timmons, General Manager Mike has over 30 years' experience as an underwriter in general insurance with the last twelve years involved with legal expenses insurance. Mike is a Chartered Insurer and a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Mike is a strong advocate for access to justice for all and looks forward to the challenges ahead in the legal expenses insurance industry, particularly the development of legal expenses insurance policies to protect as many customers as possible.

Pauline Hobin, Managing Director Having worked for the company since its formation in 1995, you could say it's in my blood! During those years Financial & Legal has gone from strength to strength, not least because of the commitment to service demonstrated by its workforce.

As Managing Director, I ensure that we continue to deliver innovative products designed to fulfil the individual needs of our business partners. It's this flexible thinking and the desire to offer valuable solutions that has been central to our success.
